Short Bio

Hosanna Emily

Like we're in line at the post office.

(book mail, right?)

Because of the grace of God, Hosanna Emily is a warrior poet: a warrior because God is her Father (which makes her a crazy-in-love princess) and she lives fighting to be faithful for the day Jesus’ Kingdom will come and a poet because she loves beautiful, truth-filled words. Thus, she fills her journal with poetry, her blog with urges to live for Jesus, and then writes books on top of that—from fantasy to middle grade and more—stories to inspire radical living for the coming King who is worthy.

On a normal day, you may find her homemaking on the family farm, going on long walks, singing worship, cooking healthy food, playing Frisbee, randomly dancing the Virginia Reel, dreaming of Jesus’ coming Kingdom, and enjoying life with her family of more than a dozen amazing people and her Church family of even more.

the Long (writerly) Bio

Like we're meeting for coffeeme with my honey-sweetened decaf or iced matchawhere you discover I'm a health nut and don't like small talk when there's depth to be had.

It seems inadequate to write a bio about me, because the ultimate Story is about God—He was in the beginning, and He will be in the end; yet He set apart a tiny part of His narrative in the middle for me to be part of. So here’s the life story my Author God has given me.

I was born on the birthday of “the little lady who started the big war,” and, in part, I pray that saying is true of me and every pair of eyes who reads my written words—I pray to be a little lady under the hand of a big God who fights the good fight until the end when He will be Victor.

I grew up in a homeschool family of ten kids on a farm and loved it. My childhood was exploring the forests and creeks as we imagined up stories and in my spare time, reading all the books I could find. At a young age, I had a simple love for God and gave my life to Him.

When I reached the pre-teen years, things got real. The fear of God hit me. I was terrified of dying, of standing before the throne of God, and of the Day Jesus would return to judge the earth. I began truly seeking God, pouring out my heart to know and to love Him, and I wouldn’t settle for less than all of Him. I wanted to hear His voice and know Him as my Best of Friends.

At the same time, I wrote a short story for school which my teacher (Mama) highly complimented; it was the first time I realized the power of words and that God could give me a gift to use them beautifully.

So I sought Jesus. I began writing my first novella. I started a blog.

He did the rest. He let me find Him, and Jesus became the Love of my soul, the Treasure that I was willing to lose everything to gain. He exchanged my fear for a huge eagerness for the Day when He would return to reign as King, and He shaped my books and written words to be war-cries, encouraging both myself and my readers to keep fighting the good fight of faith faithfully to that end.

I graduated from Thomas Edison State University with a BA in English (2019), and since then worked at a music shop, a smoothie and supplements store, and writing as an author.

Through the years, there have been ups and downs, victories and failures, and God has forgiven me of so much. He taught me through every book penned since that first one:

The Mystery of the Midnight Trespasser: God can use a person, no matter their age

The Torch Keepers: God is my Father

The Way of the King: Jesus is the Love of my Soul and my King

The Tale of Honey-Water Farm: The Holy Spirit equips us to live the Christian life

future flowers, whispered war-cries: The return of Jesus is what we live for

Fingerprints in Frost: The Gospel is full of grace

you only live twice: Jesus is the resurrection and the life, the One who brings restoration

If you met me today, you’d find that I’m an introvert who loves people, a girl who likes to run, play Frisbee, and eat healthy, a writer who randomly pens poems, a gardener who loves sun on my arms, and someone who does not like surprises or change. I love flowers and fireflies and shooting stars and sunsets. I don’t mind mowing the lawn or cleaning a bathroom, and I usually prefer packing a picnic over going out for lunch. Sometimes I play piano, ukulele, or sing in a choir, and I usually worship at the top of my lungs (even if my voice cracks) at a church I love or the home church that often meets at my house. I love Spanish and ASL and writing letters and encouraging new writers.

But the story isn’t about me. I’m just a “little lady” who God delights to use, and my books are one way He does so.

I pray He uses my life to kindle a fire in the heart of His warriors. I pray we fight the good fight well. I pray we remain faithful and joyously in love with Jesus as we await His return.

I’m Hosanna Emily, and it’s a joy to meet you.

Shalom!

Hosanna Emily

Fun Facts

If Hosanna finds a worship album she loves, she listens to it on repeat for months.

She has celiac disease and has eaten gluten free for 15+ years.

Her favorite season is spring, but she truly loves each one and gets giddy over the changes of the seasons.

Although she lives on a farm, her personal pets are three geese (Gossie, Gertie, and Ollie) and a tailless cat (Cinco).

She loves Israel--fangirling over God's promise to His people as she absolutely can't wait for the peace of Jerusalem (and sometimes listens to Hebrew worship just for fun).
